Your files never leave your device
Every tool on 3dfiles – viewers, converters, repair, generators – runs inside your web browser. Your model is read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there, and saved back to your disk. It is never sent to a server.
How other online converters work
| Typical online converter | 3dfiles | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the file is processed | Uploaded to their server | In your browser, on your device |
| Copy kept on a server | Usually for hours (often 2–24 h, sometimes longer) | Never – there is no copy |
| Upload time for big files | Minutes on slow connections | None |
| Safe for NDA parts and patient scans | Depends on their policy | Yes – nobody else receives the file |
Check it yourself
- Open any tool, then open your browser's developer tools (F12 or Cmd+Option+I) and switch to the Network tab.
- Drop a 3D file and convert it.
- You will see the page load its own code (scripts and, for STEP files, the CAD engine) – but no request carries your file.
Who this matters for
- Engineers sharing customer parts under NDA
- Dental and medical labs handling patient scans
- Product designers working on unreleased products
- Anyone who doesn't want their files on someone else's server
